"mornings on 2" starts right now. >>> good morning, everybody. welcome to "mornings on 2." i'm brian flores. dave clark is off today. >> yes, he is. >> good morning. i'm pam cook. tori campbell is also off. it's monday, december 24th. >>> we're following developing news out of marin county this morning where search-and-rescue teams are about to search for a missing man. alex savidge has more on how a traffic stop turned into a much larger situation. alex? >> reporter: well, now that the sun is coming up, the team is going to resume searching for this team, somewhere in the cordova creek. the man is suspected of drunk driving and ran from officers during a traffic stop. it happened earlier in the morning. he jumped into the creek in an area where the water is moving very quickly. authorities put a boat in the water right away to search the bas ofthe creek but there was no sign of the man. this all began after midnight when ross police made a dui stop on the man's car near sir francis drake and c
to that criticism. >>> 6:07. thousands of people lining upright now in san francisco out in the cold. they are looking for some holiday cheer. ktvu brian flores is outside glide memorial church right now. where there are delights waiting for the people who are waiting out in the cold. what is going on? >> reporter: hi, dave. we just got here but in terms of the people that have been here, they have been here since yesterday afternoon. late last night. just to get a free holiday meal today, this morning. take a look behind me. thousands of people already in line here in front of glide memorial church for that holiday meal. talk a little bit more about what is going on here today. let's bring in gene cooper. she is with glide memorial church. tell us what is going on. >> today with staging our grocery bag give awhat. annually we give out 5,000 to 5500 glide memorial bags. >> reporter: talk to us about the need for this program every year. >> well, you know it grows. we have a great population in the tenderloin and san francisco in general. there are very low income and under served and
you can see san francisco police are in the process of shutting down essex street. now the water has been shut off and we showed you that in the last half hour but there is a new problem. if we pan over here, take a look at the construction site. you can see the scaffolding is compromised with some of the metal beams going down. the firefighter said he is not sure if that is stable or if that structure is compromised so if they can get the construction guys out here to make sure that it's not about to fall, they have shut down this street and they don't know when it will reopen. let me show you video from when all of this happened because there was quite a mess out here. it was shotting an estimated 30 feet in the air and 50,000 gallons came out before they were able to shut it off. again it started with a driver running through a red light and that's what police are telling ktvu channel 2 morning news. it started when this driver tried to turn on to essex and folsom and crashed into that fire hydrant. we don't know the extent of his injuries but we have video of the driver sitting o

:05. sentencing today for a san francisco school cafeteria worker convicted of several sexual assaults. he was convicted of attacking three women in the mission district last year. one of them was beaten unconscious. he could get life in prison. the fifth suspect charged in an attack that left one man dead and a woman badly beaten is set to face a judge today. they were found bound and bagged in the middle of the street. the victims and the suspects knew each other. the final suspect is facing charges of accessory to murder and conspiracy to destroy evidence. >>> new this morning there is more fallout from the royal phone hoax. about a dozen workers at the australian radio station behind the prank call had been moved to safe houses. ten radio executives now have around the clock bodyguards because of death threats. meanwhile british investigators are disclosing more information about three suicide notes left by the nurse. two were found in the room while the other was among her personal possessions. one note dealt with the phone call. another focused on her funeral. the third criticized ho

. >> thousands of people started lining up yesterday in the cold, in san francisco, just to get a free holiday meal this morning. brian flores is outside glide memorial church. you've been out there since this morning. what's going on? >> reporter: a sea of people, at least a block long. thousands of people in line. some have been here as early as yesterday afternoon to get a free meal. every year, grace memorial church does this children where any give a bag of groceries for those who need it. this year, the church expects to give 5,500 bags of groceries. people have been in line hoping to get chicken, turkey, potatoes, pasta, beans and i many of -- and these items many of us take advantage of every day. many of these people with homeless. >> we see a lot of growing seniors accessing our services. it's doubling and tripling compared to years in the past. if you look at the demographics, the senior population is growing because the baby boomers are getting older and more people are getting on social security and disability as they reach the older years and they are really tight on money. >> re
of people in san francisco are looking for a new home after a large fire destroyed three apartment buildings and damaged a fourth. that fire started inside an apartment on 23rd street near cap street around 9:45 yesterday morning. the smoke could be seen from some of our traffic cameras in san francisco. as you can see there the fire was out of control when croups arrive add the scene. >> all units on scene did a great job. it was a tough fire. they had to get in there and fight it aggressively. >> 100 firefighters responded to the scene. one was transported to the hospital because of exhaustion. no other injuries were reported. the american red cross provided hotel accommodations for 19 people last night. s cause of the fire has not been determined. >>> dianne feinstein says she is optimistic that some type of agreement will be reached to avert the fiscal cliff. both houses of congress will reconvene today. the senate is expected to work two hours from now. while president obama wants a tax increase for those earning $250,000 there is a proposal on the table that raises that income threshol
